Delete your HandiTask account

You can ask us to delete your HandiTask account at any time. This page explains how to ask, what gets deleted, and what we have to keep — including the parts we cannot delete even if you ask us to. We would rather tell you that plainly than promise something we can't do.

How to ask

Email dpo@handitaskng.com with:

  • The phone number you use to sign in
  • Your name as it appears in the app
  • Whether you use HandiTask as a customer, a Tasker, or both

We will reply to confirm it's really you before deleting anything. If we can't verify it, we won't act on the request — that protects you from someone else deleting your account.

You don't need an active account to ask, and you don't need to give a reason.

How long it takes

We will acknowledge your request within 3 business days and complete it within 30 days, which is the period set by the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023. Most requests are done well inside that. We won't promise 24 hours, because we're a small team and we would rather keep the commitment we make.

If you have a job in progress or a payment not yet released, we'll tell you and finish that first. Deleting your account mid-job would leave the other person without a way to reach you, and money sitting in an account nobody can settle.

If you use HandiTask as a customer

Deleted:

  • Your name, phone number and profile photo
  • Your saved neighbourhood and location
  • Your notification settings and any devices registered for notifications
  • Any emergency contacts you added
  • Photos you uploaded when describing a job
  • Your ability to sign in — the account stops working

If you use HandiTask as a Tasker

Everything above, and:

  • Your profile photo, trade, hourly rate and languages
  • Your home address
  • Your referees' names and contact details, and any letters they provided
  • Your certificates, education records and photos of past work
  • Your trade licence, if you submitted one
  • Your bank record — we never stored your full account number, only the last four digits and a payment reference, and both are removed
  • The location history recorded while you were travelling to and working on jobs
  • Any notes our team wrote while reviewing your application
  • Your public Tasker profile stops appearing to customers immediately

What we keep, and why

Payment records. Every payment, refund and payout is written to a ledger the database physically refuses to change or delete, including for our own administrators. These records hold the amount, the date, a payment reference and the job they belong to — not your name, your phone number or your address. Nigerian tax and accounting law requires us to keep them.

Payout records. Where money was paid out to you, the record keeps the name of the bank and the date. It does not keep your account number — we never stored it — and the last four digits and payment reference are removed.

The job records themselves. A completed job cannot be removed while payment records point to it. We keep the job, and we overwrite your name on it.

Reviews you wrote. These stay on the Tasker’s profile. Other customers rely on them to decide who to let into their home. Reviews have always shown your first name and the initial of your surname — “Funke A.” — never your full name or your phone number.

Messages. We delete your side of a conversation. The person you were messaging keeps their own copy, the same as with any messaging app.

Reports and disputes. If you filed a dispute or a safety report, we keep the record. It is the account of a complaint we had to act on, and in some cases we are required to retain it.

Identity checks. We have never stored your NIN. Our provider checked it and told us only whether it passed. We keep that pass-or-fail result and a reference number where a completed job depends on it, with your phone number removed.

We built the payment ledger so that nobody, including us, can quietly rewrite a record of your money. That is why we cannot delete those entries even when you ask — and why we would rather say so than promise otherwise.

About your referees

If you gave us referees, we hold their name and contact details — and they never signed up to HandiTask. When you delete your account we delete their details too, and we do not contact them again. If a referee asks us directly to remove their information, they can email dpo@handitaskng.com and we will, whether or not you have deleted your account.

If you disagree with what we keep

Email dpo@handitaskng.com and tell us. If you're not satisfied, you have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), which regulates how Nigerian companies handle personal data.
